PEARL - June
Wearing the birthstone associated with your date of birth is thought to bring good luck and protection. In modern times, birthstone jewellery is a popular keepsake gift for special occasions.
Pearl and moonstone (please see link on the left) are the birthstones for June, and the 1st (pearl), 3rd and 30th wedding anniversary stone. Zodiac sign: Gemini (22 May - 22 June) & Cancer (23 June – 23 July).
Pearls are organic ‘gems’ and are formed inside different types of molluscs (most commonly in oysters (sea pearls) and mussels (freshwater pearls). Pearls are formed when a mollusc covers a foreign object within its body (a grain of sand or tiny pebble) with layers of nacre. In nature pearls vary in colour and can be creamy-white, lilac-pink, peach-pink, grey and black.
According to gem lore, pearls are believed to bring purity, faith, innocence, wisdom, and sincerity to the wearer.
